Burundi ECTN
Mandatory document for all ports in Burundi Faso.
When it comes to shipping your cargo to Burundi, you need to ensure you have all the necessary documents in place. One such document that you cannot afford to overlook is the Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN), also known as BSC.
Not having this document can lead to serious consequences, including hefty fines. But don’t worry, we are here to help you navigate through the process and ensure a smooth shipping experience.
What is Burundi ECTN Certificate?
The ECTN, sometimes known as a BSC, was made necessary for all shipments to Burundi by the customs officials there. According to this law, any goods being delivered for professional, diplomatic, or private reasons and that were purchased outside of the nation must first get a loading certificate.
The shipper or freight forwarder must receive the ECTN waiver certificate from an authorized representative.
Certificate Requirements

To start the certification process, send PDF versions of the required documents to info@globalctn.com. For the issuance of ECTN certifications, hard copies are not required.
Please make sure you send the final documents that don’t require revisions. After the certificates have been validated, a penalty cost will be applied for revisions.
General FAQs
The procedure often takes a week since Burundi’s government enforces strict regulations. Additionally, for the final certificate to be certified, the submitted documents must be consistent.
Once “Pre-validation” is complete, an ECTN number will be generated. Any modifications to the information and supporting documents made after “Pre-validation” will incur a penalty cost.
You have five days from the time you get the ECTN reference to send the original B.L. with the issue location and date, as well as the day it was shipped on board, signed, and stamped.
Otherwise, the certificate will be immediately canceled by the system, and recovering the certificate will incur a penalty price.
Only if all applications and submissions are made at the same time can you present the same declaration. Without it, there is no chance of getting the verified copy.
To obtain a copy of the certificate that has been validated, all of the documents’ information must match. If not, the certificate will be declined upon pre-validation and you will have to update your supporting documentation in order to get the certificate. There won’t be a refund until you provide documentation that is coherent.
If the shipment’s destination is altered after the vessel departs, the authorities must be notified. Since this is a unique circumstance, they take a generally optimistic stance on the matter. The other information in the document, such as the quantity and weight of the packages, should be consistent with the previous one.
The acronym ECTN, which stands for Electronic Cargo Tracking Note and is also known as Bordereau de Suivi Cargaison (BSC) or Loading Certificate, is another type of waiver document.
Each ECTN number is unique and limited to one shipment. Every cargo needs to get its own validated ECTN certificate.
